While the intentions are good, I have to agree with a previous comment on the aforementioned article that modifications to themes should not be arbitrarily implemented without prior notification to the users of that particular theme regardless how easy it may be to switch back to the desired settings.
I know if I logged onto my blog and my theme was altered, even in the slightest way, I would be annoyed simply because the changes may not reflect the visual statement I am attempting to make with the blog: How would you like to wake up one morning to find that your car had been painted a different color by the manufacturer? Not too bad if it was a color you liked but probably really pissed off if it was a color you did not approve of…
I think its great that Word Press wants to improve and update themes but show a little respect and let the users of the theme know in well in advance that a change is coming.to their presentation.
